Rio de Janeiro is located southeast of Brazil and is the capital. The annual Carnival lasts 4 days and 4 nights, culminating in the parade of Samba schools.
Museum of national history: The Museum is housed in a colonial Armory dating from 1764 and includes collections of 250,000 historic relics relating to the history of Brazil, as Royal carriages, objects from the Imperial days and much more.
Palacio do Catete Palace was for the period 1894-1960 the Presidential Palace of Brazil and currently hosts on the premises of the Museu da Republica and alternating exhibitions on the cultural heritage of Brazil. It is a beautiful Palace that sits in front of a garden overlooking the Lake, while in the wider area there is a cave and a gazebo. Is considered a prime example of neoclassical architecture, with rich elaborate interior decoration, a magnificent library, rare artifacts, documents and period furniture. From the tour on the premises of the Palace you can see the renovated Getullio bedroom of President Vargas who committed suicide in 1954.
National Museum of fine arts: The Museum is housed in an impressive neoclassical building and presents over 16,000 works of art of famous artists in Brazil and other visual artists. Its collections also include works by European painters, Brazilian folk art works, traditional West African art, such as textiles, wood carvings and many others.
