Movies filmed in Greece

As movie-lovers and on the occasion of the film "Before Midnight" with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, which was shot last year in Messinia, we recalled eight other films have been shot in our country.


Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life 

The second time Angelina Jolie played the well known archaeologist and explorer, she visited Santorini to discover the secrets and treasures of Alexander the Great. Filmed in the fantastic Aegean sea and the island of Santorini.


James Bond : For Your Eyes Only

Episodically was the shooting of  the twelfth movie series "James Bond" and fifth starring Roger Moore in Greece. Filming took place in Corfu and Meteora, and the movie provoked intense controversy in monastic circles of the region, and even some monasteries were covered with sheets to spoil shooting!


Big Blue

The Big Blue is a very good movie with very strong performances in Amorgos, a beautiful Aegean island and the film is loved by the audience even today, after 25 years. The meaning of life, nature and our character, tie with the shots of the beautiful island.


Captain Corelli's Mandolin

Cefalonians will always be proud about the movie that fairly made the island famous. The full of contrasts and the breathtaking beauty of Kefalonia, strongly supported the filming. Sami thanks for the movie morphed into 1940 Argostoli and the pure white beach, Myrtos with its  turquoise waters, gave unique shots for the director .


Mamma Mia

Mamma Mia is a summery musical, with an excellent cast, songs of legendary ABBA and the deep blue scene of Skiathos and Skopelos. Music and passion dominate, Meryl Streep gives yet another unique playing and the Greek landscape dominates.


My life in ruins

The Greek origin Nia Vardalos plays a tour guide, who falls in love with the driver of the bus carrying tourists. Together they guide tourists and spectators, as the film presents sights from the center of Athens.


Boy on a Dolphin

Let's make a small time travel in the film that left an indelible sign in our memory with the famous song by Sophia Loren "What they call love". This is the first American productions filmed in Greece. The shooting took place in Hydra, as well as at Epidaurus, the Acropolis and Meteora, with Lauren plays Phaedra, which collecting sponges discovers a statue of a child holding a dolphin.



Finally Zorbas, a film based on a Kazantzakis book, shot in Crete and one of the best productions filmed in our country. Starring Antony Quinn and  directed by Michael Cacoyannis, who has created a masterpiece.
